The Greenville Drive Reading All-Stars challenge kicks off Monday January 27, 2025. Students that wish to participate must read 5 books (or 500 pages) in five weeks to earn a ticket to one of the two offered games in May. 📱 Revised Personal Electronic Device Policy: Beginning January 2025 📱
Under a new South Carolina policy, schools are required to limit students' access to cell phones and other personal devices during the school day. The School District of Pickens County has adopted a revised Personal Electronic Device Policy to comply with state law (Budget Proviso 1.103).
✔️Devices must be silenced and stored in lockers, backpacks, or other designated areas throughout the instructional time.
✔️Devices include but are not limited to, cell phones, smart watches, tablets, and gaming devices.
We encourage parents to discuss this policy with their children and support its implementation when we return in January. Thank you for partnering with us as we implement this required policy.

The Winter administration of the iReady assessment will begin next week., 12/9-12/13. Please review the schedule below for the dates that your student will be testing.
Santa is Coming to Town! Santa will be at CWE on Friday December 6th to take pictures with our cubs. Please send cash, check or use My School Bucks to submit payment for your student's photo. All payments made via My School Bucks should be completed by Dec. 5th at 3PM; cash or check will be accepted day of.

Tomorrow, October 4th, our school will be open from 10 am -12 pm for families to come charge their devices, cool off in the air conditioning, have students play on the playground, & receive non-perishable food items. If you choose to attend, please remember that you must remain with your child at all times on campus.

Congratulations to Dr. Merritt for being a finalist for the SAM Labs 2024 Educator of the Year!
Dr. Merrit is an exemplary candidate for SAM Teacher of the Year due to her unwavering dedication to innovation and educational excellence. She has championed the integration of SAM Labs at Crosswell Elementary as an early adopter to integrating computer science into the general education curriculum, so all students have access to foundational skills in computer science. After receiving specialized training during her winter break, Dr. Merritt has consistently implemented standards-aligned experiences that not only engage students but also foster deep understanding and mastery of concepts. This includes the lessons of creating a dimmer, street light, and working with a few students on designing cars. One notable example of her innovative teaching approach is when she used SAM Labs to conduct an engaging lesson for the solar eclipse, providing her students with hands-on learning experiences before students experienced this phenomena in real life. She truly brings the real-world into the classroom, while also teaching problem-solving and computational thinking strategies. Dr. Merritt supports and encourages her fellow teachers to adopt innovative solutions like SAM labs in their own classrooms to ensure that all students have equitable access to STEM education.
